How deep is the cradle? Can I display it without a frame?

The cradle is 1 1/2" deep — a true gallery-depth profile. That means you can pat the sides and hang the fished piece frameless, and it will stand well off the wall with real presence.

Is the surface smooth — do I need to sand before patg?

The panels are pre-sanded and smooth out of the box. A light pass with 220-grit before you seal or prime gives the best bond and a smoother fal fish, but it isn't strictly required if you seal right away.

Are they good for wood burng (pyrography)?

Yes — smooth, unfished birch is one of the best surfaces for pyrography, and 16 x 16 gives you room for larger designs. Burn on the raw surface, then seal the fished piece with a clear varnish. Test your tip temperature on a scrap first.

Is this solid birch or MDF / plywood?

The surface is real birch wood on a solid wood cradle — not MDF and not a canvas board. Birch is a stable hardwood that resists flexg, which is why it's the standard choice for gallery-depth cradled panels

Will a panel this large warp or bow?

1½" solid wood cradle behd the panel keeps it rigid; deeper cradles resist bowg more, stayg flatter than same-size stretched canvas. Seal/prime front, back, edges; store flat or upright a dry room, away from damp basements and direct sun.
